A zirconium rod is ideal for use in a nuclear power rod because of its small neutron absorption cross-section and the high melting point of 1855°C (3371°F). This silvery metallic element also leads to better wear resistance and hardness of commercial amorphous metals, more commonly known as metallic glass.
Zirconium rods are often used for nuclear fuel components and in-reactor structures in water-cooled reactors as an important nuclear material due to the nuclear properties and corrosion resistance of zirconium. Zirconium rods are mainly used in the manufacture of chemical equipment.
