Dysprosium - Dy

Dysprosium is a lustrous, fairly soft, silvery metal. It's stable in air at room temperature, though it's slowly oxidized by oxygen. It reacts with cold water and rapidly dissolves in acids. Applications of Dysprosium

Dysprosium is employed in nuclear reactors as a cermet, a material made from ceramic and sintered metal, to form laser materials, reactor control rods, as sources of infrared for studying chemical reactions. Another use within the field of radioactivity is in dosimeters for monitoring exposure to radiation.
